Moto G64 5G Review

Today if we look at the Indian smartphone market then Lenovo company Motorola has made its position very strong. They are constantly releasing greater value-for-money smartphones in the budget as well as mid-range segments. Taking from the last year they have launched many most loved smartphones like Motorola Edge 40, Motorola Edge 40 Neo, Moto G34 5G, Moto G84 5G, and Moto G54 5G.

Recently they have launched the Motorola Edge 50 Pro phone at a 30k price but by looking at its features you can cont say it’s a 30,000 phone. I mean it has really amazed me because the Edge 50 Pro has packed so many premium features like wireless charging, IP68 rating, AI features, Clean OS, and many world’s first features like Pantone-validated True Color Display as well as the True Color Camera. According to me, it is the best smartphone ever in the 30k segment Motorola.

Now the Edge 50 Pro is a mid-range smartphone but Motorola takes care of the budget users as well. They have launched the Moto G64 5G smartphone in the budget pricing, which is basically a successor of the Moto G54 5G, launched previous year. It has some improvements unavailable in G54 5G but there are some negatives as well. Moreover, the company has offered an extra 1000 discount on the HDFC Bank Debit/Credit Cards. So the effective price becomes ₹13,999 for the 8/128GB variant and ₹15,999 for 12/256GB variant. Which I think is good pricing for this phone. Why? So let’s see the full review of this Motorola G64 5G to get that answer.

Moto G64 5G Review

This review is going to be very detailed including every aspect of this phone, so make sure not to miss anything. Let’s begin by discussing the phone’s build quality.

Build

Moto G64 5G Build Review

Actually, Moto G64 5G is fully made from plastic material but It doesn’t feel like a cheap or budget material. Motorola has utilised a high-quality PMMA material which comes with an acrylic glass finish. If you look at the back side of the phone, it is slightly shiny and smooth which looks premium. It also comes with an IP52 rating. Talking about the in-hand feel, then the phone is on the narrower side so it doesn’t feel wider in hand and it weighs around 192 grams which is lighter enough. Moreover, the edges on the back side are slightly curved giving a more comfortable grip on the hand.

The phone is available in three vibrant colors, Mint Green, Pearl Blue, and Ice Lilac. On the back panel, there is a small squared-shaped camera module, similar to its predecessor. The right frame has a Volume Up-Down Keys and a Power On/Off button which doubles up as a fingerprint scanner, while on the left frame, there is only a Hybrid SIM card slot. On the top frame, there is a noise-cancelling microphone and Dolby Atmos branding, while the bottom frame has a speaker grill, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm Jack. Overall Moto G64 is strong and looks very premium.

Display

Moto G64 5G Display Review

Here also Motorola has given the same 6.5-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display. The panel has having 120Hz higher refresh rate, 560nits peak brightness, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display design is modern center punch-hole styled but it is having above average sized side bezels and the bottom chin.

The display is of good quality producing smoother visuals with nice colors. It also supports an adaptive refresh rate which will be adjusted between 30Hz to 120Hz saving the battery. But the negative point is the display brightness. In Normal indoor lighting conditions, the display is enough bright but when we go outdoors in the harsh sunlight it seems very hard to see what’s there on the display. I think it should be more.

Besides, the panel has WideWine L1 support to stream OTT content with Full HD resolution but it does not have HDR support for Netflix or even on YouTube. That is ok as we can not expect that to be in a budget phone. Summing up all the things display department of Motorola G64 is decent.

Performance

Moto G64 5G Performance Review

Under the hood, Moto G64 comes with a new MediaTek Dimensity 7025 (6nm) processor which is an overclocked version of the Dimensity 7020 available in G54 5G. There a two RAM options of 8/12GB of LPDDR4X type and two storage options of 128/256GB of UFS 2.2 type, This is beneficial because it offers more RAM and storage, resulting in faster read/write speeds and smoother app opening and closing.

If we talk about the on-paper performance of this phone then it has scored approx. 5,00,000 AnTuTu score which is really very nice. In the Geekbench testing also the phone performed well gaining 1020 points in Single-Core and 2416 points in Multi-Core Test. However, during the CPU throttle test, the phone’s chip throttled to only 80% of its maximum performance, which is acceptable but could have been improved. If in case you don’t understand these benchmark scores then I will tell you that in real-world scenarios this phone will handle heavy Multitasking and and day-to-day tasks very smoothly without any doubt.

Moto G64 5G AnTuTu Score

Speaking from a gaming standpoint, in BGMI, you can play at maximum (Smooth, Ultra) settings with 40fps. COD Mobile is also playable at 40-50fps with (Medium, Max) settings, and PUBG New State supports gameplay at 90fps. Overall, the gameplay experience was very smooth, with no noticeable lag or stutter during casual gaming. However, during extended, intensive gaming sessions, the phone does tend to get slightly warmer, and occasional frame drops were observed.

Overall the Moto G64 isn’t ideal for high-end gaming. However, if your priority is handling day-to-day tasks, extensive multitasking, and casual gaming, it’s an excellent choice.

Battery & Charging

Moto G64 5G Battery Review

One of the most likely parts of this phone is its battery department. According to me, Motorola has given a perfect combination of 6000mAh battery capacity along with 33W fast charging speeds. The phone takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to get charged 0-100%. On full charge, the phone gives almost 2 days of battery life with normal usage and around 1 day of backup on heavy usage. In my view at the 15K price point, Moto G64 5G is the well-balanced and outstanding battery department.

Camera

Moto G64 5G Camera Review

The camera area is the second most likely part of the Moto G64 5G. Where the companies are giving 2MP depth and macro sensors just for the marketing purpose at the same time Motorola is giving the fully functional camera setup. There is a Dual camera setup on the rear side of the phone including a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide sensor along with Autofocus. For the selfies and video calls there is a 16MP selfie-eye on the front.

The 50MP main camera features Motorola’s Quad-pixel technology, capturing pleasing images. It captures detailed and natural-looking pictures in normal lighting and portrait modes. Thanks to Quad-pixel technology, it also performs well in low-light conditions. One observation I made is that images from the 50MP main sensor sometimes exhibit a slightly warmer or reddish tone. However, ultrawide shots and selfies present no issues, with selfies showcasing accurate skin tones and colors.

In the videography department, the phone comes with the support of 1080p resolution videos at 60fps from the back camera and 1080p resolution videos at 30fps from the selfie camera. The video quality is also better but the stabilization is even more better as compared to the other phones in this segment.

Noting about the camera features, there are all the standard modes like pro mode, night mode, panorama mode, slow motion mode, portrait mode, time-lapse mode, split color mode, dual video mode, and spot color mode. Overall the camera is also very well balanced. According to its price, I liked the camera.

Multimedia

Moto G64 5G Multimedia Review

Again for the multimedia department of Moto G64 5G, I will say it is balanced because the display is of Full HD+ resolutioned IPS LCD type. The LCD panel is of good quality and it also has Widewine L1 certification for the Full HD video streaming but the drawback is the absence of HDR mode. You will not be able to see HDR videos on Netflix or on YouTube.

At the same time, there is a big plus point as well in the audio department. Motorola has given the Dual Stereo speakers which are stunned by Dolby Amos. The speakers produce very loud and clear sound quality. In the price range where this phone is coming, I would say these are the best speakers I have heard. In extra, you also get a 3.5mm jack which enables you to use wired earphones. So if you don’t have any issue with the absence of HDR support then this phone is a good option for multimedia.

OS & UI

Moto G64 5G OS Review

This is the department for which most of the users prefer to buy Motorola phones. They offer a clean and near-to-stock Android UI experience. The Motorola G64 also comes with a clean and lightweight My UX 14 UI which runs on the latest Android 14. The bad thing is that the company has promised only 1 year of Android OS updates and 3 years of security updates but the good thing is the UI is very feature-rich.

There are many customisation options with the colors of the icons, wallpapers, font of the text, etc. You also have the Moto gestures like turning on the LED flash on doing chop chop motion, opening the camera on Twist motion, Multiwindow support for multitasking, etc. All these small small features become very useful in everyday life. The OS and UI of the Moto G64 5G are definitely up-to-date.

Network & Connectivity

Moto G64 5G Connectivity Review

Moto G64 doesn’t sit back, It comes with 14 5G bands, Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, 4×4 MIMO, and 3 Carrier Aggregation. The phone also comes with VoNR (Voice over NR) which means you can do voice calls over 5G. Apart from that it has a Hybrid SIM card slot, so if you need more storage then you can insert up to 1TB of micro SD card along with one SIM card or you can insert two SIM cards at a time. In the Network and Connectivity area, Motorola phones excel.

Sensor

Moto G64 5G Sensors Review

There are all the sensors available including a Side-Mounted Fingerprint scanner, Face unlock, Gyroscopic sensor, Accelerometer sensor, Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Gravity sensor, and Magnetometer Sensor. There is an absence of an IR blaster but other than that all the sensors are working fine.

Service

This is a crucial aspect that often goes unnoticed by many people. Even if a phone excels in all aspects, poor after-sales service can downgrade its value. When encountering issues with a newly purchased phone, reliable service becomes essential. Motorola offers an impressive service policy.

Motorola’s service is too good, offering a 24×7 WhatsApp chatbot and call option for assistance. Additionally, they contains service centers in over 371 cities across India. In summary, you can expect seamless after-sales support for your phone.
