POCO M6 Pro 5G Review
In this review, I will talk about every aspect of this phone, so don’t skip anything and first, let’s start with the build of this phone.
Build
POCO has done an outstanding job in the build of this phone. Even if this is an under 10K phone, it comes with the Glass Back, which feels premium. The phone has a boxy design with flat plastic frames, making it more comfortable to hand. This phone is 8.1mm thick and 198.2 grams heavy, but because of good weight distribution, you will not feel this phone is that much heavy. The phone feels very strong and sturdy because the display is also protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Talking about the design, the back panel has three rings, two big rings contain cameras, and one small ring contains an LED Flash. All the cameras are placed under the typical black iland with POCO branding, which looks good. The phone is available in two colors, Forest Green & Power Black, and in both colors phone looks so premium. So the Build Quality & Design department of this phone is excellent.
Display
Coming to the display department of POCO M6 Pro, a 6.79-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD Display is given, which supports a 90Hz Refresh rate and contains 550nits peak brightness. The display size is very big, with an average size of top & side bezels and slightly bigger than the average size of the bottom chin. But that is negligible as it is a budget phone. One good thing is that the panel has a center punch-hole style design rather than the old-style water-drop notch design.
If I talk about the display quality, it is very good. Even though it is IPS LCD, it produces good colors, and the viewing angles are also good. I wish the brightness could have been better because even in moderate sunlight, it becomes difficult to see what is going on in the screen, and in harsh sunlight, nothing is visible on the screen. Still, if you are not using your phone outdoors, then there are no brightness issues. One thing I like about this display is that it has Adaptive sync, which means the phone will adjust the refresh rate from 30Hz, 48Hz, 60Hz, and 90Hz according to the task you are doing, which also saves your battery.
Besides that, this display comes with the Widevine L1, so you can see the videos in Full HD resolution on OTT platforms. I have checked YouTube, and you can see the videos at a maximum 1080p resolution. Overall this is a very modern-looking impressive display, and you will not have any issues with it.
Performance
Now talking about the main thing for what this phone is becoming very famous. POCO has packed a very powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, fabricated on 4 nm-based architecture making the phone very power efficient. The chipset is coupled with 4/6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64/128GB of UFS 2.2 Storage. Generally, other companies give eMMC storage in this price range, but POCO has given UFS storage, so the read/write speed becomes faster, and app opening/closing becomes smoother.
If we see the paper Benchmark scores, then in the AnTuTu test, this phone brings approximately 4,50,000 scores which is crazy. This type of score comes in under 15K smartphones, but POCO has done it in under 10K, so very well done. In the Geekbench testing, the phone has scored 916 points in Single-Core and 2184 points in Multi-Core Test, while in 3DMark Wildlife Stress Test, the phone has come up with the 98.7% of stability, so looking at all of these Benchmarks, I can say actually the performance is excellent.
We have also done gaming on it. In BGMI, you can play maximum at (HD, High) settings with 40fps. I haven’t felt any lag or shutter while playing the game, but yes, when the player number increases, I notice some frame drops, but that is ok for this budget phone. In fact, I have also played the Asphalt 9 game, which was also running with good-quality graphics.
So if you are doing a little bit of heavy gaming or multitasking, this phone will handle it very easily without any problem. In my opinion, this is the best gaming phone under 10K for sure.
Battery & Charging
To power up this very powerful system, this phone bags a typical 5000mAh Battery with 18W Fast Charging Support. As this M6 Pro comes with a 4 nm-based chipset, the battery consumption becomes less, and you got a long battery backup. With everyday tasks, this phone lasts for more than one and a half days, but when you do heavy gaming, this phone gives almost 7-8 hours of screen-on-time without any problem. So you will be able to play for long sessions.
Now talking about the Charging speed, the box comes with a 22.5W Charger, but the phone supports 18W Fast Charging. I know that the 18W is a very slow charger, and the phone will take almost 2 hours to be 100% charged, but once you have charged the phone fully, you will definitely be able to use it for a whole day. And again, we also have to consider the price. At this price, the 18W charge is decent. So the battery backup and charging department is very much sorted.
Camera
Before I start talking about the camera, one thing that I do clear is that this is not a camera-centric phone. So don’t expect excellent camera quality. But still, there is a dual-camera setup of a 50MP primary sensor + 2MP depth sensor on the rear and an 8MP selfie sensor on the front, so I have to explain how it works to get the basic idea of the picture quality.
The main camera of 50MP comes with the f/1.8 aperture, and it clicks decent photos. In normal lighting conditions, it clicks good photos but on the softer side. It captures good colors of the surrounding objects, but when it comes to human skin tones, it does make the skin slightly whiter. So, If you like more social media-worthy photos, you will like them; otherwise, it doesn’t produce natural photos. Besides, the 2MP Depth sensor is useless, and an 8MP selfie sensor also clicks good pictures in normal lighting conditions.
If we talk about videography, this phone can shoot up to 1080p at 30fps on the front and back. In daylight, it shoots good videos, but in low or nightlight conditions, the photos and videos are not that good. And we can’t expect it with any budget smartphone.
Other than the camera performance, if we talk about the camera app, it is very clean and minimalistic. There are all the standard features like portrait mode, slow motion mode, timelapse mode, etc. A Night Mode is also given, but it is ok, not that much considerable. So if your focus is the camera, this is not the phone you are looking for. For the camera, you can go for any other company phone like Samsung because Samsung phone’s camera quality is generally good. With this POCO M6 Pro 5G phone, you can just fulfill the basic need of a camera.
Multimedia
Regarding multimedia, POCO M6 Pro 5G phone gives a decent experience as there is a single down-firing speaker. The speaker is loud, and the quality is ok, considering the price. There is also a good quality Full HD+ display with Widevine L1 support, so the Video viewing experience will be good. Moreover, this phone also features a 3.5mm jack, allowing you to attach your wired earphones. Overall if you are looking for a phone for multimedia, this is one of the good options.
OS & UI
Let’s talk about the OS of this M6 Pro 5G. The phone runs on the latest Android 13-based MIUI 14 user interface. One thing I like is that The company has promised 2 years of major Android updates and 3 years of security updates which means you will get Android 14 as well as Android 15, so that is great. Now we have to see how timely the company delivers updates because many companies are promising but giving late updates, so timely updates are important.
Apart from that, if we talk about the user experience of this UI, There are so many bloatware and ads in the phone, as expected in any budget phone, but you can uninstall and turn them off, so there are no problems. Moreover, there are so many features like Dual Apps Window, Clone Apps, and MIUI Dialer that are very useful. In my view, in OS & UI departments, all are good.
Network & Connectivity
Again after the performance Network & Connectivity is the second department where the POCO has done a great job with POCO M6 Pro 5G. Even though it is an under 10K budget segment phone, it comes with 5G Network support. This is probably the cheapest and most affordable 5G phone in India. This phone supports 7 5G Bands, all needed in India, which ensures you very good internet connectivity anywhere across India.
This phone is given a hybrid SIM Slot, which means you can insert either 1 SIM Card and 1 SD Card of up to 1TB or 2 SIM Cards at once, but in my opinion, a dedicated SIM Slot must be there as it is a budget phone. So that is a minus point if you want to use Two SIM Cards and One SD Card simultaneously. Other than that there, Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi Calling, Dual Band WiFi 5, and Bluetooth 5.0 supports are given. So ignoring that hybrid SIM Slot problem, this phone’s Network & Connectivity department is very strong.
Sensor
Guys, in the POCO M6 Pro, almost all required sensors are available, including a Side-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner, Gyroscopic Sensor, Accelerometer Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, SAR Sensor, and Magnetometer Sensor. I have tested all the sensors, and they are working well.
Service
As I say every time, the service is also an essential criteria to check while buying a phone because if you buy a phone and something goes wrong with it, the company service will help you. If the after-sell service is not good, you may face many issues while repairing your phone.
So about the POCO service, you will be fine as almost 561 POCO Authorized Service centers are available in India. You will easily find a service center in your city as well.
