Infinix GT 20 Pro Review

Infinix, a Chinese brand that was relatively unknown in India until 2023, has recently made significant growth in the Indian smartphone market. The company’s market share has seen a remarkable increase of approximately 74%. In 2022, Infinix held a modest 2.3% share of the market, which grew to 3.1% in 2023. Now, with their continuous launch of value-for-money smartphones, it appears this share is set to grow even more by the end of 2024.

Infinix GT 20 Pro Review

Now, let’s dive into the review of the Infinix GT 20 Pro. In this review, I will cover every aspect of this phone one by one, starting with its build and design.

Build and Design

Infinix GT 20 Pro Design and Build Review

The design is completely different from the normal phones. It is filled with so many mechanical elements giving you a complete gaming vibe. It comes in three distinctive colors: Mecha Blue, Mecha Orange, and Mecha Silver. With an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, it can withstand minor water splashes. The phone has a boxy design with flat sides which gives more firm grip. The phone’s boxy design and flat sides provide a firm grip, while the glossy finish, though prone to fingerprint smudges, prevents it from feeling slippery. This design definitely ensures a comfortable and secure hold during gaming sessions.

Although the Infinix GT 20 Pro may seem similar to the GT 10 Pro at first glance, it has several improvements. Despite being made entirely of plastic, its look and feel are more premium than its predecessor. Previously, small LED lights were positioned near the camera module, but the GT 20 Pro now features a larger RGB Mecha Loop Lighting in the center of the back panel, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Infinix GT 20 Pro Mecha Loop Lighting

This LED light offers various modes, including Party Mode, Breathe Mode, Meteor Mode, Rhythm Mode, and Gradient Mode. You can customize the light’s colors and set it to activate for specific events, such as incoming calls, notifications, charging, and music. This flexibility makes the Mecha Loop Light both attractive and functional. Overall, this design will appeal to gamers, though it might not attract those who prefer a minimal look. Ultimately, the design is subjective, but personally, I like the design.

Display

Infinix GT 20 Pro Display Review

The Display department is one of the strong points of this Infinix GT 20 Pro. There is a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen, which supports 144Hz super fast refresh rate, 1300 nits peak brightness and 94.3% screen-to-body ratio. The bezels are very thin and the panel produces vibrant colours. The Display also comes with the PWM dimming support to prevent your eyes from flickering in low brightness.

Surprisingly Infinix has attached a dedicated Display Gaming Chip to enhance the gaming visual on the screen. It makes the display smoother and enhances graphics while gaming. One more thing this chip can do Is, on some of the popular video platforms like YouTube and Instagram, when you are watching videos, it converts normal SDR content to HDR content giving you a more dynamic and immersive video viewing experience.

So, according to me, the display is excellent. it is perfectly suited for gamers, binge watcher, as well as normal content consumers.

Performance

Infinix GT 20 Pro Performance Review

Now coming to the main highlighting feature of this phone for which it is being popular. The GT 20 Pro houses world’s first MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 5G chipset, fabricated based on the 4nm architecture. This chipset is already very powerful but the more exciting thing is the company has coupled the latest and fastest 8/12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 Storage. This combined package makes the phone extremely powerful to handle hard-core gaming and multitasking without any lag or shutter.

Looking at the benchmarks, the Infinix GT 20 Pro scores approximately 950,000 points on AnTuTu, making it the second-highest in the sub-25K segment after the POCO X6 Pro. On Geekbench, it scores 946 in the single-core test and 3628 in the multi-core test. In the 3DMark Wildlife Stress Test, the phone achieved GPU stability over 99.4% and only became slightly warm, which is impressive.

Besides the on-paper benchmarks, If we see the real-life gaming test, this phone works very well. In BGMI this phone supports up to 90fps gaming with the highest settings that is (Smooth, Extreme+) and in COD is also available to play at 90fps with (Low, Ultra) highest settings. Infinix has also promised that they are going to provide 120fps support in BGMI very soon. It is already available in the PUBG which is not available in India. We have played PUBG at 120fps for testing whether it really works or is just gimmicky. But after testing I would say it was really smooth and works very well. we are getting very stable 120fps gameplay even after 1 hour of gaming.

Not only the BGMI but the Genshin Impact, which is a very heavy game of 25GB is also playing around 57-58 fps even after the half-hour of continuous gameplay, which is commendable. After playing these types of heavy games for about 1 hour, the phone gets slightly warmer but it drops too much battery. we have started at around 63% battery and after 1 hour of gaming at 120fps it goes to 35% seeing a 28% battery drop. But the good thing is even after 1 hour it doesn’t drop even a single frame rate. The gaming experience was really buttery smooth.

If you have the Cooler of this phone then it will be an added advantage because it actually cools down the temperature of the phone and allows you to play longer sessions with high performance. Besides if you don’t have it then also this phone will be more than enough. In my opinion, this phone is best suitable for hardcore gamers as well as normal users.

Battery & Charging

Infinix GT 20 Pro Battery and Charging Review

In the battery department, this phone boasts a typical 5000mAh battery with a 45W fast charging support. The phone takes around 1 hour to get fully charged but If you are using just normal tasks, the phone will last for more than a day, but whenever you do heavy tasks or gaming, it will last around 5-6 hours.

Infinix GT 20 Pro By-Pass Charging

As this is a gaming phone, Infinix has given a Bypass charging feature. This means when you put the phone on charge and turn on this mode the electricity will directly give the power to the chipset not to the battery. This prevents the battery from getting hot and provides higher performance while gaming. One thing that I think should be improved is 45W charging. As this is an under 25K phone and especially it is a performance-centric phone, it should have higher charging speeds like 68W or 80W available in competitors. Nonetheless, the battery and charging performance is quite good overall.

Camera

Infinix GT 20 Pro Camera Review

Before discussing the camera, it’s important to note that this is not a camera-centric phone, so don’t expect outstanding camera quality. However, it does feature a triple-camera setup with a 108MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor on the rear, along with a 32MP front-facing selfie sensor.

The 108MP main camera takes decent photos, especially in normal lighting conditions, though the images tend to be on the softer side. It maintains a natural color tone, whether capturing objects or human skin tones. Portrait shots have good edge detection but suffer from the same softness in detail. The phone also struggles with exposure control. Additionally, the 2MP depth and macro sensors are largely ineffective, and the 32MP selfie sensor produces similarly natural-toned pictures.

In terms of videography, this phone can shoot up to 4K at 60fps with the rear camera and up to 2K at 30fps with the front camera. It performs well in daylight, capturing good video quality, but struggles to capture background details in low-light or nighttime conditions. While the main camera features optical image stabilization (OIS), the stabilization could be better as the footage tends to be a bit shaky.

Aside from the camera performance, the camera app is packed with features such as dual-video mode, portrait mode, super night mode, pro mode, panorama, slow motion, timelapse, native mode, document scanning, and AR space. Overall, the camera is decent, but if you prioritize camera quality, you might want to consider other options available in the market.

Multimedia

Infinix GT 20 Pro Multimedia Review

The multimedia experience on the Infinix GT 20 Pro is excellent, thanks to its stunning 144Hz smooth AMOLED display and dual stereo speakers tuned by HBL. The loudness and sound quality are impressive, ensuring a great audio experience. However, it’s important to note that this phone does not have a 3.5mm jack, which might be disappointing for some gamers. Nonetheless, Bluetooth earphones or headphones can easily compensate for this omission.

Besides, the phone also comes with a dedicated display gaming chip which makes SDR content to HDR, as I told you earlier. You can consume HDR content on YouTube as well as on Netflix using this feature. The phone is also Widevine L1 certified, allowing you to stream videos and movies in Full HD resolution on OTT apps such as Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and Amazon Prime. Overall, the multimedia capabilities of this phone are impressive.

OS & UI

Infinix GT 20 Pro OS Review

I am very pleased with Infinix in this area. Previously, the Infinix phones were controversial about their unclean and insecure UI, but this time they have extensively improved their UI. The Infinix GT 20 Pro comes preinstalled with a clean XOS GT UI based on the latest Android 14. It doesn’t have any bloatware apps or advertisements. The UI feels very smooth and refined. Additionally, the company has promised 2 years of major OS updates and 3 years of security updates, which is commendable.

Furthermore, the OS includes AI features like language translation and standard features such as floating windows for multitasking, Memory Fusion for virtual RAM expansion, and an iPhone-like dynamic bar for notifications. These features are very useful in day-to-day life. In conclusion, the OS and UI are up to the mark.

Network & Connectivity

Infinix GT 20 Pro Connectivity Review

Surprisingly the Network and Connectivity area is also a very strong point. It is a 5G phone with 14 5G Bands. This ensures that you will not have any problems if you go anywhere. Additionally, it includes the latest Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, 4G VoLTE, VoNR, and NFC as well. So in wireless connectivity, you will not have any issues. One thing that I clarify you is that this phone offers dual SIM support, allowing you to use either two SIM cards or one SIM card and one SD card simultaneously.

Sensors

Infinix GT 20 Pro Sensors Review

In terms of sensors, this GT 20 Pro comes with all the sensors. It features an in-display fingerprint sensor, face unlock, proximity sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, gravity sensor, and magnetometer. I have tested all these sensors, and they function perfectly without any issues.

Service

Service is a crucial yet often overlooked factor when purchasing a phone. If your phone gets damaged after purchase, reliable company service becomes essential. Poor after-sales service can lead to numerous issues during repairs.

With Infinix, you don’t need to worry. The company has over 1,000 authorized service centers across India, making it easy to find a service center in your city.

Conclusion

In conclusion, who should buy this phone? If your priorities include hardcore gaming, heavy multitasking, an excellent display, multimedia performance, a strong battery, and bypass charging, then this phone is one of the best choices. However, if a pro-grade camera is your top priority, this phone may not be for you, as the camera is the only area where the Infinix GT 20 Pro lags behind. Otherwise, it is a very strong and powerful phone within the under 25K price segment and is recommendable.
